The Complete Laurindo Almeida Anthology of Guitar Solos
by Laurindo Almeida ; edited by Ron Purcell Book.. 176 pages.
Laurindo Almeida belongs to an elite group of Brazilian/American guitarists, who by composing important works for the guitar reinstated the instrument in his native country as worthy of serious musical study. Stylistically, his compositions synthesize his classical background, traditional Brazilian music, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and American jazz. This collection presents Almeida's solos preserving the original left and right hand fingerings. The fingering is unique and tells us something about his skills as a professional guitarist. It also reflects the Brazilian school of guitar technique in the 1930's. Written in standard notation only.

The Guitar Music of Stepan Rak Volume One
by Stepán Rak ; edited by Stanley Yates Book 72 pages.
Czech guitarist and composer Stepan Rak is regarded as one of the most creative and innovative figures in the contemporary classic guitar world. Eclectic and unique, his music combines depth of expression with technical innovation and brilliant virtuosity, yet speaks with a direct and powerful voice. Although numerous recordings and published editions of Rak's music have appeared, much of his best music remains unpublished or unavailable. A projected multi-volume edition from Mel Bay Publications, Inc. will alleviate this situation. This first volume contains five concert works from the period 1986-1989, each displaying a unique facet of Rak's compositional output: Elegy (Hommage a Sibelius); The Czech Fairy Tales; Aria de Bohemia; Song for David; and Sonata Mongoliana.   Homage to Villa-Lobos and Other Compositions
composed, transcribed and arranged by Charles Postlewate Book 96 pages.
This publication is the first compilation of music for the guitar that makes extensive use of the entire playing spectrum of the right hand - the thumb and four fingers. It is the culmination of a 14- year research project by the author to add the little finger to the playing technique of classical guitar, a concept which has been contemplated and attempted at various times since the publication of Escuela de Guitarra (School of Guitar) in 1825 by the Spanish guitarist Dionisio Aguado. The ten complete pieces presented in this book consist of original compositions, transcriptions, arrangements, and newly edited pre-existing guitar repertoire. All of the selections in the book are performed by Charles Postlewate on the CD Homage to Villa-Lobos (MB98711CD). Two additional pieces appear on the recording with partial excerpts in the book. Text in English and Spanish.

   Right-Hand Studies for Five Fingers
by Charles Postlewate Book 56 pages.
The product of a 14 year research project, this book contains over 350 studies to thoroughly train the right hand of classical guitarists in the use of all five fingers - adding the little finger to the present four finger technique. These studies build a five- finger technique in the playing of chords, arpeggios, tremolos and harmonics, beginning with the thumb and one-finger combinations and increasing in complexity to the thumb and four fingers. The studies are played over easy, yet interesting, left hand progressions up and down the fingerboard. Postlewate demonstrates how to develop your own right hand studies by including examples from standard classical guitar repertoire pieces by Fernando Sor, Federico Moreno Torroba and Heitor Villa-Lobos at the end of the book. Written in standard notation only. Text is presented in English and Spanish.
